Paintings, Prints & Outdoor Art by NZ Artist Zoe Sizemore
Zoe Sizemore is a Tauranga-based artist who paints New Zealand's native birds, flora/fauna and landscapes. A graduate of the University of Auckland's Elam School of Fine Arts (2005), she continues to pursue painting as her primary form of expression.
Her work is grounded in symbolism and shaped by an eclectic mix of influences: the dreamlike imagery of surrealists such as Dalí, alongside the close-focus for the natural world found in modernists like Georgia O'Keeffe. Zoe chose to paint native birds, drawn to their quiet power as symbols, much like the canary in the mine, using them to carry deeper meaning within each piece.
At the heart of her practice is a deep concern for the environment and our relationship with it in an increasingly digital world. For Zoe, painting is about creating a pause, a chance to reflect on the beauty and significance of the natural world, and the part each of us plays in protecting it.
To own one of her original paintings is to bring home more than a piece of New Zealand art. It becomes a talking point, a way to mark a special occasion, and a memento to treasure for years to come.

"I now have 3 pieces of Zoe’s art in my lounge, all bird art. They are our “talk pieces” because visitors often comment how beautiful they are and we get talking about Zoe’s passion for birds and nature and how talented she is. I absolutely love all my pieces."
